About Us

Child and Family Services of Grand Erie (CFSGE) believes that child welfare is a shared responsibility with our community partners and strives to work collaboratively with families and the community to offer a variety of supports and services.

Our goal is to keep the family unit intact by helping the family access the supports and resources they need to keep their children safe. We seek both formal and informal supports, including kin and kith to help care for children as the least intrusive measures. Even in cases where, as a last resort, children have had to reside with an alternate caregiver, our aim is to return the children to their primary caregivers as soon as possible.

Community Based Child Welfare

An integral part of ‘community based child welfare” is the recognition that we need to integrate child protective services with other community service providers to offer support that is accessible to families.

Some families refer themselves to the Agency because they would like support and service for their family. The Agency receives referrals from other members of the community as well when there is a worry about child safety.
